Almost Hard to Imagine...

It is hard to imagine a town the size of Fort Payne - population 14,000 - with more industrial diversity.

In addition to being a large hosiery manufacturing center, Fort Payne is also blessed with many other diverse businesses. GameTime, for example, is the largest manufacturer of park and playground equipment in the world and has its home office in Fort Payne. Vulcraft, a division of Nucor Corporation, and Valley Joist are both in the top ten in the country in the manufacture of steel trusses and in bar joist production.

Steadfast Bridges are found on golf courses from California to Bermuda and their bridges also span rivers as far away as Washington and Montana.

This hometown business had the honor of contracting the building of the bridges used during the 1996 Olympics on the Ocoee River in Tennessee.

Electrical Components Plant plant located in Fort Payne is a vital link in providing electric power to the world. The Heil Corporation provides dumpster truck bodies for cities across the United States.

In the US, Ferguson is ranked by trade publications as the largest distributor of plumbing supplies and pipes, valves, and fittings (PVF). Ferguson is also the third largest distributor of heating and cooling equipment (HVAC). Ferguson has located one of its distribution centers located here in Fort Payne and has plans for expansion.

Fort Payne is also home of several small manufacturing company, trucking companies, and other providers of products and services. These diverse businesses provide many items and specialized services that keep the larger corporations running smoothly - many were born from needs of those companies by their own employees who were innovative and foresaw needs.
